White House weighs broad gun-control agenda in wake of Newtown shootings - The Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/white-house-weighs-broad-gun-control-agenda-in-wake-of-newtown-shootings/2013/01/05/d281efe0-5682-11e2-bf3e-76c0a789346f_print.html

...." One potential strategy would be to win support for specific measures from interest groups that are normally aligned with the NRA, according to one person who works closely with the administration on gun-related issues and who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the issue’s sensitivity.
For instance, this person suggested, Wal-Mart and other major gun retailers may have an incentive to support closing a loophole that allows people to bypass background checks if they purchase firearms at gun shows or through other types of private sales. That could result in more people buying guns in retail stores."....

RRD : For those who are new to this, Clinton tried a similiar scheme with S & W ( Smith & Wesson) , the "thinking" was that they would pit "good" ,"responsible" gun manufacturers like S & W against "bad" gun manufacturers, then the "bad" ones would be sued,& the "good" ones would cut deals with the Federal government.

What could possibly go wrong?

What went wrong was that gun owners boycotted S & W into bankruptcy ;literal bankruptcy.
No other gun manufacter made a deal with the federal government after that.

Let those who think that pragmatism is practical take note of that,(& I include the GOP in that group).

Now Obama & co. think that they can do the same thing with Wal-Mart. If the managers of Wal-Mart are ,in fact ,considering this, then what Wal-Mart 's managers should ask themselves is this: why would people patronize a business that helps to violate their rights?

Incidentally this is yet another example as to why gun owners should spread their business around to a number of local shops rather then concentrate their purchases at one major national chain: if your local gun shop goes under because Wal-Mart undercut them in price, then you will be at the mercy of Wal-Mart's corporate decisions.

We "hang together" or we will be seperately hanged.

New Hampshire Legislator: We Need to 'Restrict Freedoms' of Conservatives

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/02/New-Hampshire-Legislator-We-Need-to-Restrict-Freedoms-of-Conservatives

...." For those unaware, a conservative project of sorts has been underway in New Hampshire since 2001.
The idea is that Americans of conservative ideals are to move to New Hampshire, gather in communities, run for office, and work to drive the state toward libertarianism and conservatism. It is called the "Free State Project" and adherents are called "Free Staters."
These Free Staters figure that the state’s motto, “Live Free or Die,” should really mean something and it is these citizens whose freedoms legislator Chase wants to oppress.
In her December 21 post, Chase wrote that, "Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today." "In the opinion of this Democrat, Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today. There is, legally, nothing we can do to prevent them from moving here to take over the state, which is their openly stated goal. In this country you can move anywhere you choose and they have that same right. What we can do is to make the environment here so unwelcoming that some will choose not to come, and some may actually leave. One way is to pass measures that will restrict the 'freedoms' that they think they will find here. Another is to shine the bright light of publicity on who they are and why they are coming." ....

RRD: Replace the words "Conservative" & "Libertarians" with "Liberals" & "Progressives" & "New Hampshire" with Texas & ask yourself how many milliseconds it would take for the New York Times,CBS,ABC & NBC to call that "the rise of theofascism" . How long would it take before we would be told that this would be a violation of the Equal Protection Clause? Unfortunately I fear that far too many on the left would be accepting of this.

House Republicans: Don’t Play the Game | RedState #tcot #tlot #teaparty (( tags : Fiscal Cliff,Taxes)) ((delay : in 2 hours ))

...." Well, today the White House is telling Fox New’s Ed Henry that this was the game all along.
According to Ed Henry, the White House staff is saying that getting the GOP to break their tax pledge is, “One of the most consequential policy achievements of the last couple of decades.” The plan cuts $1.00 in spending for every $41.00 in tax increases. Contrary to what Senator Pat Toomey is claiming today, everyone’s taxes will also go up – the 99% and the 1%.
That will be the headline if the House Republicans vote for this plan. Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul were defiant. They know what is at stake. "....

Boehner's 100 loyal soldiers might give him political cover on 'cliff' - The Hill

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/275087-boehners-100-loyal-soldiers-might-give-him-political-cover-on-fiscal-cliff

...."To assess party loyalty, The Hill analyzed five controversial bills on fiscal matters that sparked outcry from factions on the right and significant defections from House GOP members: a March 15, 2011 stopgap funding bill; an April 14, 2011 bill that averted a government shutdown; an Aug. 1 roll call on the Budget Control Act; a Nov. 17, 2011 "minibus" appropriations measure; and a Feb. 17, 2012 vote to extend the payroll tax holiday. Republican defections ranged from 54 to 101 on these bills.
Despite the GOP infighting, 92 House Republicans didn't buck leadership on any of those measures. This group includes leadership lawmakers, committee and subcommittee chairmen and a surprising number of freshman members.
Some of Boehner's loyal legislators include GOP Reps. Cole, Steven LaTourette (Ohio), Pete King (N.Y.), Darrell Issa (Calif.), Gary Miller (Calif.), Tom Marino (Pa.), Jon Runyan (N.J.) and Steve Stivers (Ohio).
LaTourette, a close friend of the Speaker, recently told The Washington Post ,"I'm a Team Boehner guy, and I will support the Speaker [on the fiscal cliff]."
[A full list of the 92 members runs below.]..."

RRD: Odd,I was not aware that there was a "team Boehner", that took precedence over a Congressman's oath to uphold the Constitution.
