RRD:I read this in a magazine(Kiplinger's?)many years ago.Recounted from memory, the question marks indicate details I'm unsure of. The Sap:
One person comes into a Car Dealership. He is awed by the car he wants to buy.He tells the Car Salesman that he knows that this is the best car ever made & that there is no way the dealer will take a penny off the price. He eagerly agrees to every accessory the Salesman unloads on him despite their inflated price. The Man: A older man enters the Car Dealership. He owns a small chain of grocery stores.(?)He is a immigrant from India(?).He is a self-made man.He has a list, with him,of all the Dealerships in this & the neighboring cities. He is interested in purchasing two cars. One for each of his adult children. He has choosen not just the make of the car,BUT THE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE*,choosing the precise shipment from overseas that is unpopular, down to the color & lack of accessories. The car itself is of the reliable, but boring variety.
He is prepared to pay in cash or with a check immediately, but he is prepared to go from dealer to dealer comparing deals. He smiles politely & refuses all efforts to bid up the price beyond that which he calculated ahead of time.He wears them down.He shaves several thousand dollars off each car in the end.
Which of these two people do you think Speaker Boehner most resembles?Which would you want to have negotiating on your behalf?
*I remember reading that it is possible to research this but I forget how.
