....”This week we saw still more of
Obama’s nihilism with respect to the office of the President. Not only did he “slow jam” the news with Jimmy Fallon, but he also opened his appearance at the White House Correspondents’ dinner with humor so tasteless, that I would never discuss it except for the fact that our President did. Apple is criticized for tax avoidance, not only by the liberal New York

Egypt’s women urge MPs not to pass early marriage, sex-after-death laws: report

http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/04/25/210198.html

RRD:Previously I warned that there was a very real risk that Islamists could come to power in Egypt.(fn1).
Now the Egyptian Government is seriously considering legislation that would lower the age of marriage to 14,curtail a woman's right to divorce & her right to get a education and--bizarrely even for Islamists--permit a husband to perform sex acts upon his wife's corpse.

Local Women's Rights groups are protesting and it remains to be seen whether this insanity will become law.

PA President Mahmoud 'Abbas: Israel Forced the Iraqi Jews to Emigrate #jcot #supportisrael

RRD:Gee aren't you glad that Israel has a ”partner for peace” in Mahmoud 'Abbas?

PA President Mahmoud 'Abbas: Israel Forced the Iraqi Jews to Emigrate

http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/6298.htm

..."Some among the Jewish public remember the role played by Mordechai Ben Porat, [who later became] a minister in the Likud government, and by Shlomo Hillel, [who later became] a minister in the Labor government. They headed a secret Zionist organization and planned operations of throwing hand grenades into [Jewish] homes, synagogues and places of business. The Jewish public still remembers that a member of one of these gangs, who had lost his leg, sued Ben Gurion for sending him on the operation in which he was crippled.

"Initially, the Zionist movement did not want the Jews of the Arab countries to immigrate to Palestine, because it wanted to create an [exclusively] Ashkenazi state with a West -European character, though it did demand political, financial and media support from the [Jews in the Arab world]... The situation changed following the establishment of the state [of Israel], after the Israeli army occupied larger territories than had been allotted [to the Jews] in the partition plan, and after the Zionists were disappointed [to discover] that the European Jews did not flock to Israel en masse after the end of World War II. [The Zionists] had hoped that these [Jews] would come due to the oppression and suffering inflicted upon them by the Nazis and fascists.

"Having no other choice, the Zionist movement turned to the Jewish communities in Iraq, Yemen, North Africa, Egypt and Syria, urging them to emigrate, though these [communities] had no motivation to leave, for they all enjoyed high standards of living, as well as civil and political rights that the European Jews had not even dreamt of for centuries. In Iraq, for example, after the declaration of the constitution in 1908... the Jew Sassoon Eskell became the first minister of finance in 1921, and held this position for several consecutive terms. Article Two of Iraq's Founding Assembly Law, of 1922, stipulated that [five] members of the assembly must be Jews: two from Baghdad and one each from Mosul, Al-Basra and Kirkuk. Parliamentary Elections Law No. 11, from 1946, stipulated that the Jews would be represented [in parliament] by [six Jewish] MPs: three from Baghdad, two from Al-Basra, and one from Mosul, in addition to a [Jewish] representative in the Senate”....

Irani, who suffers of several ailments including an intestinal disorder, is "frequently beaten by prisoners under the watchful eye of prison officials," said Jason DeMars of advocacy group Present Truth Ministry.

"Sources close to the family are concerned that he will die before the end of his five-year prison sentence," DeMars explained. Besides known health issues, he is also "having trouble with his eyesight and his foot," he added, suggesting the situation may be even more serious than previously thought.

Irani, who is in his 40s and married with two children, has been behind bars in a prison of Karaj city where he led a congregation of the Church of Iran house church movement.

Kurdish dissident Kavoos Soofi Shiaoosh faces persecution if returned to #Iran #humanrights

World News: Kavoos Soofi Shiaoosh’s one-way ticket to an uncertain fate in Iran - thestar.com

http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/1162819--kavoos-soofi-shiaoosh-s-one-way-ticket-to-an-uncertain-fate-in-iran

...”But Soofi, a refugee claimant under a deportation order from Immigration Canada, was in the Toronto West Detention Centre, behind bars because the authorities had declared him a flight risk.

And in spite of interventions from lawyers, experts, international human rights organizations and a federal court judge who had ordered a stay of deportation on Feb. 3, he may soon be headed for a far worse place, a cell in Iran’s feared Evin prison, if he loses a final risk -assessment review.

The charges that would await him are all too familiar: treason, espionage, insulting Islam, apostasy. They are routinely levelled against those who protest the clerical regime or abandon Islam — both of which Soofi has done. All are punishable by death. His membership in Iran’s increasingly persecuted Kurdish minority augments the danger.

“I did what anyone in Canada is allowed to do, because it’s a free country,” Soofi says while recuperating in his brother’s Thornhill apartment from a month in detention and an 11-day hunger strike.

But claiming rights and freedoms that are taken for granted in Canada can be fatal in Iran, a country that routinely represses, tortures and executes its citizens, with no scruples about its methods of obtaining “confessions” of guilt.

“I had a good job in Iran, but I came here and worked hard so I could know what it’s like to live in freedom,” says Soofi, who had been the sales manager of a computer company. “Canada speaks out against the abuses that are happening in Iran, but it sends people back when they are facing the very same kind of punishment.”

Not according to Immigration Canada.

It reviewed Soofi’s case and checked all the boxes: risk of persecution, risk of torture, risk to life, risk of cruel or unusual punishment. No, no, no and again no.

“Canada has one of the fairest refugee systems in the world,” it says in an email to the Star, adding that “due process has been followed at every step of Mr. Soofi’s claim for protection.”

So determined was the department that Soofi faced no substantial risks if he returned that the Canadian Border Services Agency obtained a travel document from Iran, marking him as a scheduled deportee. To drive the point home it bought him a one-way ticket to Tehran.”...

DEM CT Senate Candidate who called opponent "AIPAC Whore" continues her demented tirades

Pointed Jabs Punctuate Generally Calmer Debate Of Democratic Candidates For U.S. Senate - Courant.com

http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-us-senate-dems-debate-0410-20120409,0,1489971.story

Another flash point among the field was the relationship between the U.S. and Israel.

Lee Whitnum, a former software engineer from Greenwich, continued her critique of U.S. aid to Israel. Whitnum had a fairly low profile until last Thursday, when she called Murphy a "whore" during a televised debate because he had expressed support for Israel.

Some Democrats, including Gov.Dannel P. Malloy, said Whitnum should not be allowed to participate in the debates because of her outburst. "You are talking about someone who is on the fringe of the fringe,'' Malloy said Monday morning, before the UConn debate.

CT-1 Media, a consortium that includes The Courant and Fox-CT, asked each of the candidates to take a civility pledge to encourage a tone of courtesy and respect, and that's what generally prevailed.

On Monday, Whitnum acknowledged that she had "a bit of a meltdown" in the last debate, but she continued to assert that the "neo-cons" in the Bush administration, acting in concert with Israel and the well-connected pro -Israel lobby in Washington, were responsible for the Iraq War.

Afterward, Murphy noted that there were "less theatrics" on Monday. "But I don't think Whitnum's comments were any less outrageous,'' he said. "Her continual insistence that Israel has something to do with Sept. 11 is over the line.".....

RRD:One wonders if Whitnum even knows that even Mearsheimer and Walt walked back their statements on Israel being responsible for the Iraq war,(but only after others had throughly demolished their arguments).

Mike Wallace's hostility to Israel #jcot #supportisrael

Mike Wallace Leaves Contentious Legacy - Features - News - Israel National News

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/154624#.T4yPxuXCtHg

...”During the course of his career, Wallace interviewed Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. During his 1989 interview with the Chairman of the "Palestine Liberation Organization" (PLO), Wallace enabled Arafat to continue professing his anti-Israel sentiments, without question and in the absence of his customary “probing” reporting style. When he asked Arafat if he had renounced “military operations” inside Israel, Arafat responded, “Any people who are facing occupation or oppression have the right to use all methods.” Wallace did not probe further or question the validity or morality of his claims.

“In a 1988 segment on “60 Minutes” — 18 years before publication of the almost instantly discredited essay “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy,” by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt — Wallace advanced essentially the same theme. His report seemed to be an attempt to discredit pro -Israel activists in the United States — especially the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — and undermine U.S. support for Israeli aid,” explained the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) in their report entitled “Mike Wallace’s Middle East Problem.”

In his 1958 interview with the late Israeli ambassador Abba Eban, ....
Wallace, quoting the British historian, stated, "... Arnold Toynbee has said, 'The evil deeds committed by the Zionist Jews against the [refugee] Arabs are comparable to crimes committed against the Jews by the Nazis."

He continued addressing the Israeli ambassador, noting that, “the American Jew and the State of Israel, the anti-Zionist rabbi, Dr. Elmer Berger [a Reform rabbi, not Satmar or Neturei Karta] has written, 'the Zionist -Israeli axis imposes upon Jews outside of Israel, Americans of Jewish faith included, a status of double -nationality,' a status which he deplores. What's your answer”....

RRD:My answer is that Toynbee was a great historian when his anti-semitism did not get in the way of his sanity, and that Berger is a tiresome self-hating Jew,and last that Wallace is likewise a anti-semite or at least a anti-zionist(two things which often, through not always,go together).

Preventing a Nuclear Iran a speech by Michael Rubin :: Middle East Forum

Preventing a Nuclear Iran :: Middle East Forum A briefing by Michael Rubin March 19, 2012

http://www.meforum.org/3212/preventing-nuclear-iran

”This text may be reposted or forwarded so long as it is presented as an integral whole with complete information provided about its author, date, place of publication, and original URL”

..”Michael Rubin, a former editor of the Middle East Quarterly , is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and a senior lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School. He formerly served as a political adviser to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq and has written extensively about Iranian history and politics. He is the author of Into the Shadows: Radical Vigilantes in Khatami's Iran (2001) and the co -author of Eternal Iran (2005). On March 19, Rubin addressed the Middle East Forum in Philadelphia about the efficacy of sanctions on Iran as well as the prospect and logistics of an Israeli strike.

Can sanctions against the Iranian regime be effective? Michael Rubin addressed this question by citing Tehran's former nuclear negotiator, who revealed that previous suspensions of Iranian nuclear enrichment had merely been temporary ploys aimed at ameliorating international pressure and preventing a UN consensus on sanctions. Rubin argued that Iran's bleak current economic outlook is due not to sanctions but to the regime's mismanagement of the economy.

Whether sanctions can cause the regime to change tack is a different story. Twice before, Tehran has staked out very firm positions only to ultimately reverse course: in 1981, when fifty-two American hostages were released after 444 days in captivity—the reason for which, Rubin explained, is a topic of much debate—and in 1988, when Ayatollah Khomeini accepted a ceasefire to end the Iran-Iraq War. Khomeini admitted that the ceasefire was like "drinking a poisoned chalice" but that eight years of bitter stalemate and the desolation of the Iranian economy left him no choice.

What measures can be imposed today that would force Iran to again drink the proverbial poisoned chalice? Rubin suggested that broader, rather than targeted, sanctions would be a good start. It may be necessary to cause some "pain for ordinary people," he noted, "if our goal is to start a grassroots movement."

Rubin voiced reservations about taking the diplomatic route. With only ten percent of the Revolutionary Guards (IRG)'s revenues coming from the government, the force has effectively "gone rogue." Even if a deal was struck with the Iranian regime, the IRG—with its control over the country's main cargo airport, many of the customs gates at the Imam Khomeini International Airport, and, most likely, a nuclear weapons program—would still pose a grave physical and ideological obstacle. For this reason, a policy of deterrence doesn't sit well with Israel or America. Moreover, were the regime to be defeated, the potential for the IRG to launch missiles simply out of spite, as did Gaddafi's forces at Misrata when defeat became imminent, suggests that containment isn't a viable option either.

The question is, therefore, whether Israel could pull off an air strike on Iran. Even if the Jewish state succeeded in striking under a veil of secrecy, this would quickly disappear once the pilots delivered their payloads, and they would still have to travel about 700 miles before exiting Iranian airspace. Thus, Iranian control centers and air defenses would also need to be eliminated, requiring an operation of such magnitude that an Israeli attack would be both improbable and ineffective.

Against this backdrop, Rubin emphasized the importance of distinguishing the Iranian people from the regime, citing a poll that suggests that only 25 percent of Iranians favor the clerical system, while 75 percent have given up on it. With little faith in the efficacy of the aforementioned options, Rubin proposed that we leverage and embolden this majority, push for regime change, and ask ourselves: how can we empower the Iranian people?”....

RRD:So a historian muses on the polygamists in Romney's and Obama's respective family trees.

One wonders which family tree will receive more news coverage.

Romney will no doubt, not want to seem "racist" by bringing this up,while the MSM will seize on this.

We will also hear tales of genetic determinism, which will be coupled with statements about Romney's attractiveness to women, which will be coupled with tales of his ego,all to imply without evidence, that Romney is a adulterer.

No doubt there will also be comments about how the more dominant Chimpanzees,Monkeys etc have more females than the less dominant ones, and that world leaders have more women than average.(This was actually put forward during the Bush years, though no evidence was presented for the claim about world leaders)

Romney advisor supported Individual Mandate,Blue Cross cites Romneycare in support of #Obamacare before SCOTUS #tcot #tlot

Will Romney suffocate inside the K Street bubble? | Campaign 2012 | Washington Examiner

http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/article/will-romney-suffocate-inside-k-street-bubble/475666

.....”When Republicans abandon the free market and smaller government, the culprits are often the industry lobbyists within the GOP's inner circles.

Former K Street lobbyist Ed Gillespie, who joined Mitt Romney's campaign last week as adviser, shows how industry can muddle Republicans' economic message. Specifically, Gillespie's and Romney's closeness with the health insurance industry has weakened the GOP's ability to attack President Obama's least popular policy, Obamacare's individual mandate.

In 2007, Gillespie was the headline Republican for the bipartisan Coalition to Advance Healthcare Reform. CAHR advocated "market-based solutions," but it also held as a core principle that "every American should be required to carry health insurance," as stated in an op -ed written by CAHR founder Steve Burd, CEO of Safeway.

CAHR was made up of large employers, plus insurers like Aetna, Blue Cross of California, and Cigna, as well as drugmaker Eli Lilly. Of course Aetna and Blue Cross supported the idea of forcing people to buy health insurance. They were paying for CAHR, and CAHR was paying Gillespie.

Gillespie tells me he never advocated a federal individual mandate. Instead, he advocated "a requirement that able-bodied people should have health insurance," as he put it in a phone conversation Wednesday. Anyone not carrying health insurance would lose half of his personal exemption, under Gillespie's idea. "It was not a mandate," Gillespie told me. "It was a way of addressing the free-rider problem" of uninsured people obtaining health care from hospitals, which are required by law to care for all comers regardless of ability to pay.

Gillespie's "requirement to have health insurance" is not identical to Obamacare's "personal responsibility requirement," but it's close enough that it makes it harder for him, as a Romney proxy, to attack Obama's mandate.

Romney has the same problem. He constantly tries to draw rhetorical lines between his own state-level individual mandate and Obama's federal individual mandate. He claims profound philosophical differences between the two, but hasn't made a convincing case that they're really far apart.

Romney's problem had the same source as Gillespie's: industry. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, in its legal brief supporting Obama's individual mandate before the U.S. Supreme Court, stated that the insurer "played a critical role in" crafting Romneycare. Last spring, Romney defended his 2006 law on the grounds that it was praised by a think tank "funded by business." Since a lot of businesses benefitted from Romneycare and supported it, that hasn't been a winning argument”...

Will Romney pursue the electoral path of Reagan-G.W.Bush,or of G.H.W.Bush-Dole-Mccain

Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee. Now what? - The Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/mitt-romney-is-the-republican-nominee-now-what/2012/04/09/gIQAN6fU6S_blog.html?wpisrc=nl_politics

....”Find somewhere to break with conservatives: Romney will not lose this election because the base isn’t excited about him. (They aren’t but they dislike President Obama so much it should make up for any doubts they retain about Romney.) He will lose the election because voters in the political center viewed him as too much a creature of the ideological right for them to vote for. (In a recent Gallup/USA Today poll of 12 swing states, Romney trailed Obama by nine points among independents .)

What Romney needs to change that dynamic is a public break from the far ideological right of his party, a, for lack of a better description, “Sister Souljah” moment. He needs to prove to independents that he is not in the pocket of the tea party wing of the GOP, which, while it clearly helped Republicans win back the House in 2010, appears to be turning into something of a net negative in 2012.

Romney’s best (recent) opportunity to do just that came in the furor set off by Rush Limbaugh’s comments about a female Georgetown Law School student named Sandra Fluke . He passed on that chance — likely due to concerns about inflaming the conservative base right at the moment when the nomination seemed won (or close to it).

Now that Romney is the close-to -unquestioned nominee, he needs to find something to put a bit of distance between himself and the party’s right. And the sooner the better.”....

RRD:So Romney needs to denounce the very people whom he will need to win in 2012,since they will support him no matter what he says or does.Or as Mike Murphy once put it:the base will vote for a bag of cement so long as it has a R or D after it.The fact that most of the base of the GOP has frantically tried to find someone, almost anyone, other than Mitt Romney to be their candidate,is all the more reason to alienate and enrage these people, since the more feces you throw at them the more energized they will be to fight for you.

Right?

Just so that we are clear:the path to victory for Republicans is this:

1.Nominate someone hated by the base.

2.Take positions to the LEFT of the independents you are wooing.

3.Spit in the faces of the people whom you will need to go door to door for you,so as to get the votes of those undecideds who may never even decide who to vote for.(Who will put up your signs?Blank out.How can you motivate people to support a candidate who spits on your values?"You'll do something Mr.Rearden")

4.At one and the same time that you are spitting on your supporters to get the votes of those who aren't your supporters, you must also abstain from attacking your enemies, lest the independents dislike you.Do this even as you are smeared day in and day out, since the Independents hate it when Republicans(but never Democrats) run negative campaigns.Indeed, praise your opponent, denounce those who criticize him justly, say,(like Mccain),that he is "a good man",and that "we have nothing to fear from his presidency".
When "they pull a knife",instead of "pulling a gun",pull a flower and give it to your enemies, and a knife to stab your supporters in the back.
In short "loveth your enemies and hateth your friends".

Aren't you glad we have such intellectual titans advising the Republicans.Of course the Post writer knows that this is a path to suicide, that is why he is encouraging Romney to pursue this course.

The question is will Romney listen?
Perhaps not to the Post, but will he listen to his own moronic advisers?
Republicans do not win by spitting on their base, they win by energizing their base.
Democrats win by pretending to be centrists or Conservatives.Republicans win by running on Conservative Positions,by promising to cut taxes,& by attacking their opponents as tax & spend liberals who are weak on defense(which they are).
No Republican since Reagan has ever won by alienating his base and following the G.H.W.Bush-Dole-Mccain path to defeat.

But Robert could Romney win if he promised to dismantle the welfare state?

No,but he needn't ”distance himself” from the Teaparty either. The Teaparty is a loose-nit group of fiscal conservatives & Obamacare opponents.

Rather than attack and alienate the Teaparty,if he is intelligent, he should say something along the lines of the folowing:

"I don't endorse or agree with everything said by anyone and everyone in the Teaparty, and of course there are evil people in every group, but the Individuals who make up the Teaparty,by and large, are our husbands and wives, sisters & brothers, fathers and sons, and mothers and daughters.
The animating ideas & principles of the Tea Party are:a love of the Constitution, concern with out of control spending, fear of higher taxes, and opposition to having the government tell us how to live our lives through laws such as Obamacare.
Now if the Teaparty stands for these things,(and it does),what then do their opponents stand for?
Do they hate the Constitution? We know that Newsweek published a picture of the Constitution being put through a paper shredder. Are they tax and spend liberals?Do they support having the Government micro-manage our lives? The answer to the latter two questions has been given to us by this administration over the past four years. No,I am not running against the teaparty,I AM running against Barack Obama."

This is what any sane Republican would say.
But of course Romney will not say any of these things. The reason he will not say these things is not because they will not work,it is because the Rockefeller Republican Strategists, who are advising Romney DO NOT WANT IT TO WORK.

They want to win on their own terms,or not at all.

In saying that I do not mean to imply that they are unwilling to win by saying things that they do not believe in,or that they are unwilling to win by supporting politicians that they don't agree with.
That would be admirable.
But they have already been deceptive when they claim that they ”just want to win”.
Were they interested in winning, really winning, they would study Reagan's campaign,& they would study G.W.Bush's campaign.
Yet instead they pretend that history consists of ”extremists” like Goldwater & Mcgovern losing to ”centrists” like LBJ & Nixon.
When educated men and women continue to ignore reality, when they continue to ignore the fact that their strategy has been tried and has failed with G.H.W.Bush,with Bob Dole and with John Mccain, then it is reasonable to conclude that they really are not "just interested in winning".
They are interested in winning in a manner that will let them still be loved by liberals.
They are interested in winning in a manner that will let them keep their liberal friends. They are interested in winning in a manner that will garner them praise from the MSM for being "kindler, gentler,Republicans".
They wish to eat their cake and still have it remain after they eat it.
While the left is waging a battle to the death for the soul of this country,it is the Rockefeller Republicans who gave us Ford, who lost to Carter,G.H.W.Bush & Dole who both lost to Clinton, and who gave us John Mccain,a war hero, who managed to lose to a student of Saul Alinsky.
Such is the "practicality" of the dogma that elections are "won from the center".
By Contrast, only one Conservative,Barry Goldwater, ran on Conservatism & lost, and he lost in large part because of his own foolish statements about using Nuclear Weapons in Vietnam, and because the country had not yet seen the effects of LBJ's so-called "war on poverty".

But to return to the original question;will Romney follow the path of Reagan-G.W.Bush,or of G.H.W.Bush-Dole-Mccain.

Let me put it this way:

I have a vision that keeps running through my head over & over again:It is a image of a stadium with mostly empty seats, except for a few places scattered here and there. The seats with people are populated mostly by people who are not only physically old,but who LOOK old, spiritually.Old,spent, tired looking people with expressions of bovine indifference.
People who will occasionally hold up a sign for a few seconds & then put it away wearily. The signs tout ”progressivism”,& praise ”green jobs”,and speak about "saving the earth" from Global Warming.
People there speak of the nobility of govenrment service & the evil of money making.
They boast about how their candidate opposed the Bush tax cuts and fought for a cleaner earth.

It was the 2008 Republican Convention.
I suspect that the 2012 Republican Convention will look very similiar to it with some modifications. We will probably hear about "Progressive Federalism","responsibility conservatism",”Environmentalist Conservatism”.etc.

So,no I think that 2012 will be another train wreck. But it won't be the end of the Republican Establishment. No matter what happens Conservatives will blamed, and the mantra will be that the Republican party is too conservative, too "ideological",that Romney was,in essence, too good for us.Someday Conservatives may get it into their heads that insanity is defined as committing the same mistake over and over again, supporting RINOS,just this once, just to get through this one election, and then expecting a different result.
You won't get it.

Gary Johnson does not believe #Tehran is a threat #irannuclear

Gary Johnson | Foreign Policy | Afghanistan Bases | The Daily Caller

http://dailycaller.com/2012/04/09/thedcs-jamie-weinstein-gary-johnsons-strange-foreign-policy/2/

.....”On Iran, Johnson said that if “Iran launches a nuclear warhead they can be assured that they will no longer exist.”

“None of their country will be left to stand and that will be from Israel,” he said, confident that the threat of nuclear retaliation would prevent the Islamic Republic from using any nuclear weapon it obtained."....

...."Johnson went on to say that he doesn’t think Iran has seriously been engaged diplomatically....

“Look, ‘Don’t develop a nuclear weapon,’” he proffered.

“’So if we open up trade with you all, we’d like to be a trading partner,’” he added.”

....“Am I not correct in saying that Iran has never voiced that they are developing a nuclear weapon, nor do they have any intention of using a nuclear weapon against the United States?” he asked.

“That’s never actually been voiced. I don’t know where that has come from, but it hasn’t been from Iran.”

So if he doesn’t believe Iran is developing a nuclear weapon or has any intention of developing a nuclear weapon, why is he even suggesting negotiations ? Shouldn’t we just open up trade with Iran without asking for anything in return in that case?

“I would be in that camp,” he conceded.”.....

RRD:Does Johnson understand that there are people in Iran who believe in the coming of the Twelfth Iman?

Does he understand that there are those with a apocalyptic worldview in that country?

Does he understand the concept of Martyrdom?

Does he understand that the wife of one of Iran's Nuclear Scientists said that her husband's lifelong goal was Israel's destruction?

Does he understand that there have already been detailed, comprehensive plans put forward for how do destroy Israel?

Does he understand that the Government which he expects to be guided by reason and concern for free trade is populated by people who seriously believe in Sorcerers casting spells on government officials,& that the government which he wishes to reason with is arresting & charging squirrels & pigeons with espionage?

In short does he understand that a considerable portion of the IRI's government is deranged?

No not all,and there are certainly many rational,pro-american,dissidents,and yes Persia has a long established list of cultural achievements. But I am speaking of these bizarre fanatics, whose worldview is often literally Medieval.

CBS News: Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum Suspends Campaign « CBS Philly

Will Primary voters stage protest votes?

I,for my part,wasn't bluffing.
I will not support Mitt Romney.

Fmr. Bush advisor advocates return to "compassionate conservatism" by Romney #tcot #tlot #teaparty

Romney’s woman problem: He needs a new message - The Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/romneys-woman-problem-he-needs-a-new-message/2012/04/09/gIQAe2Bv6S_story.html?wpisrc=nl_opinions

...."Women and independent voters have seen a party enthusiastically confirming its most damaging stereotypes. The composite Republican candidate — reflecting the party’s ideological mean — has been harsh on immigration, confrontational on social issues, simplistic in condemning government and silent on the struggles of the poor. How many women would find this profile appealing on eHarmony?

This is the hidden curse of the Republican congressional triumph of 2010. Republican activists came to believe that purity is all that is necessary for victory. But a presidential candidate, it turns out, requires a broader ideological attraction than your average tea party House freshman.

Republicans forget how they have recently won the presidency. In 2000, George W. Bush campaigned — in both the primaries and the general election — on increasing the quality of education for poor children, on humane immigration reform and on expanding care by faith-based organizations for the addicted and homeless. These issues were personally important to Bush. They also signaled to independents and women that he could think beyond normal ideological boundaries. This form of “compassionate conservatism” is now broadly reviled among conservatives. The need for an analogous agenda, whatever it is called, remains unchanged. To secure a decent shot at this election, Romney will need to offer some positive vision for the common good."....

RRD:Mr.Gerson, the only "positive" thing the government can,or has a right to do for the "common good"(a term lifted from Communists),is to PROTECT INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.
This is not "ideological",it is MORAL.
"Compassionate Conservatism" is a violation of Individual Rights.
The Government has no right to violate Individual Rights.Politicians have no right to promise to violate Individual Rights to bribe people with other people's money so as to win elections, they have no right to violate Individual Rights,AT ALL.
When I hear people (who support Romney) speak about how Obama is spending us into third world status, how "anyone would be better than Obama", I'm curious if they have given any thought to the fact that the Predident is the leader of his party, and that there is one power Obama doesn't have;he doesn't control the GOP.
He cannot turn the GOP into the Democratic Party-lite.
Romney can.

But pay no attention to me,just keep repeating that ”Obama is worse”,& that once we get rid of him....we'll do what?

Stage a primary challenge in 2016 when Romney is running against Hillary,or Pelosi,or Obama or whomever the Dems put forward?

Obama is really not unique in the Democratic party.

Will we ”drag Romney to the right”?
How?
The only leverage the Conservatives have lies in their refusal to support him.
If we must "hold our nose",and support him,no matter how bad he is,because "we've got to beat Obama",what leverage will we have?

But we will we stage a "teaparty takeover of the GOP"?

We cannot even keep the Republican "Leadership" from betraying us on the Debt-Ceiling.

I have been hearing this mantra since I was a teen during George H.W.Bush's campaign against Clinton:

"Support the GOP now and fix it later"...

I heard this in 2004,and in 2006,and in 2008,and in 2010,just as I'm hearing it now,and we will be hearing it in 2016,and 2018,and 2032,and the reason is simple:pragmatism.

The Conservatives can't,or won't, see the forest from the trees.

While they are focused on beating a single person,in a single election, the Left is using the Republican's past support of the Individual Mandate,Cap and Trade,& "Judicial Restraint",& "Deference to Congress" etc,to sell their proposals,& to disarm their opponents.

They laugh at our short-sightedness.

Some quote Lenin when he says that the Capitalists are short sighted enough to sell us the rope that we will use to hang them.

Obama's goal it to remake America, not to win elections.

What better way to achieve that goal than to wipe the field of all principled opposition and make the Teaparty look like partisan hacks.

And a Partisan Hack is what you will look like if you say that Obamacare is socialism, that it is a outrage against Individual Rights, that it is evil, that it is immoral,oh,and Romney is "not ideal", & "He's imperfect",& ”he's not the candidate I would prefer, but he's the candidate we have”...

If Obama had done nothing other than pass Obamacare would he be "imperfect"?,"Less than ideal",& ”not the candidate I would prefer, but he's the candidate we have”?

How do people intend to get Romney elected and perserve their credibility?

Will they acknowledge how bad Romney is?

If so they will preserve their credibility, but undercut their ability to "sell him",just as was the case with Mccain in 2008.

If not they will appear as hypocrites, and unlike Obama's hypocrisy the hypocrisy of Republicans will be repeatedly shown on TV.

The ironic thing about pragmatism is that it is one of the most impractical belief systems on earth.

RRD:Frankly while I'm glad Dan Riehl and Jeffrey Lord are giving us the heads up,I think that they are overly concerned.
First Romney appearing on Huckabee means very little,he has appeared on Hannity;appearing on a program does not make you part of a anti-Rush plot.Second,it's the Dickey brothers company,if they wish to destroy it that's their business, far be it from me to tell them how to destroy their own company.
Rush will survive them so long as men are free to speak without being censored. And censoring him would provoke a backlash the likes of which media matters cannot even dream of.

RRD:I wonder if Mccain is too clueless, and full of himself to realize that his statements are hurting, not helping Romney?
The fool who botched his campaign beyond belief & effectively threw the election to Obama still seems to think of himself as the ”titular head of the Republican Party”.Dear Senator Mccain, newsflash, you are hated by the people whom you betrayed. You revealed your true colors when you
said ”I’ve always done whatever’s necessary to win”(fn1),when you ran against JD Hayworth. But of course you didn't do ”whatever’s necessary to win" against Obama, against the Democrats, doing so would cause the MSM to dislike you,and you couldn't have that now, could you.Yes,you distinguished yourself in Vietnam, and we owe you our thanks for your service there. But we are not obligated to pretend that you are not a fool, and a loser, and a moral coward where politics are concerned;you are one.

Iran Ahead of Upcoming Nuclear Talks: Majlis Member: We Can Manufacture Bomb, But We Won't; 'Kayhan': The U.S. Has Capitulated

http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/6256.htm

.....”The most important question that has faced and is still facing the Americans is... when will Iran take the decisions that the U.S. expects it [to take on the nuclear issue]?... Examining an entire decade of the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, one can characterize it as a record of [instances in which] the U.S. adapted its "red line" to the Iranian [stance]. The [suggestion] currently on the table, which is probably the most important issue that will concern the Americans in the upcoming talks, does not include any of these demands. The Obama administration wants to replace all its [previous] demands with a demand to 'stabilize the uranium [enrichment] level' – that is, [it wants] Iran to stop enriching [uranium] to 20% at the Fordow [nuclear plant] and be content with 5% enrichment at Natanz.

"Regardless of Iran's response to this demand, the [pertinent] question is what we can infer from the thrust of the changes in [the American] positions. The American administration... always sets large goals [for itself], and makes a huge fuss over them, but, once it realizes that they cannot be implemented, quietly adapts them [to reality] and replaces them with other, humbler, goals, while continuing to make a fuss. We see that, in this process, the [Americans'] main solutions for the controversy quietly faded away. Originally, the controversy was precisely over the issue of 5% enrichment – recall the Tehran Declaration [issued after the May 17, 2010 meeting of Iranian, Brazilian and Turkish leaders in Iran].[iv] But now it seems that everyone in the West understands that this era is over, [so] they are suggesting ideas that quietly accept the assumption that this key issue [of uranium enrichment] is resolved.”.....

Dane Lars Hedegaard charged with ”crime” of saying sexual abuse is a serious problem among Muslims #womensrights #tcot #freedomofspeech

PJ Media » Round Three in the Trial of Lars Hedegaard

http://pjmedia.com/blog/round-three-in-the-trial-of-lars-hedegaard/?singlepage=true

.....”In a defamation case in the United States, the truth of the statement at issue is a defense to the cause of action. Not so for prosecutions under Article 266(b); truth is not an available defense. In his first two trials, Hedegaard was not allowed to offer any evidence that what he said was actually true (though he was permitted to reference it in his closing remarks), nor will he be allowed to offer such evidence at the Supreme Court. According to Hedegaard:

I should have the right to prove my case. I could have called witnesses. I could have quoted holy books and statements, and I could have referred to facts. But you cannot do that in a court of law in Denmark if you are accused under this infamous Article 266(b). Whether or not what you are saying is true is immaterial. If somebody feels offended or if the prosecutor thinks that somebody has a reason to feel offended, whether or not you speak the truth has no bearing on the case. That is what is surprising about Danish jurisprudence.

Though evidence of the truth of the statements is no defense, that did not stop the prosecutor in the Superior Court trial from raising the issue himself. According to Hedegaard, “Of course I wasn’t asked about evidence in favor of my contention that sexual assaults are prevalent or a big problem in Muslim culture.” He went on to say, “But the prosecutor took the liberty of referring to the content of what I had said and said you can’t even prove that. Which of course was quite true — I couldn’t prove it because I wasn’t allowed to prove any of it.” But beyond Hedegaard, who is being prosecuted for daring to raise the issues, who are the real victims of our not being able to have an open and honest discussion about sexual violence in any community ?”....

List of stories in the MSM whose theme is that Santorum endorse Romney. #2012 #teaparty

RRD:Please note that I have excluded stories put out by Conservative,or Republican Establishment mouthpieces.
Note also that this list only covers about the past week.
There are two reasons that the MSM wants Santorum gone,(and no,concern for the GOP isn't one,& concern about the damage Santorum does to his reputation if he does not make a "graceful exit" isn't the other).

1.They hate Santorum

2.They wish to ensure that if worst comes to worst, and Obama is defeated, that his legacy remains intact. And finally they see it as a opportunity to entrench Liberalism in the GOP.

Democratic staffer puts on Jewish version of a minstrel show.

Screen_shot_20120403_at_113917

Democrats’ ‘Jew Cash Money Team’ | Washington Free Beacon

http://freebeacon.com/democrats-jew-cash-money-team/

RRD:First let me note--in case the reader is unaware--that I am of Jewish heritage.I used the phrase Jewish Version of a Minstrel Show, because while it may sound harsh, that is exactly what you are doing when you act out a racial or ethnic stereotype, whether out of self-hatred,ignorance,or pandering to bigots.I am reminded of the scene in "A Soldier's Story" when Master Sergeant Vernon Waters describes how another African-American soldier pretended to be a monkey(fn1).

And if you think that I am overreacting, note that this goes beyond a jewish woman kissing money, she describes both herself, and her compatriots as ”Jewbags”,& the 'Jew Cash Money Team’ .

But African-American men refer to themselves with racial epithets?
Oh,yes,they do.
Should they?
Should a woman refer to herself with sexist curse words?
I am aware of the argument that if a member of a minority does something, then it can't be racist, but there is a line between using a term, like the N-word,against a racist,("Yeah, well this N***,ain't afraid of you brother!"),and playing the bigot's fool,(or expressing your own bigotry).
This crosses that line.

Will there be any fallout from this? Will there be a apology, or even a response?Who knows. If a Conservative Jewish Woman had done this,we'd never hear the end of it.It would be looped again and again and cited as "proof" that all Jewish Conservatives,or Libertarians are self-hating.

..."Master Sergeant Vernon Waters: You know the damage one ignorant Negro can do? We were in France in the first war; we'd won decorations. But the white boys had told all them French gals that we had tails. Then they found this ignorant colored soldier, paid him to tie a tail to his ass and run around half-naked, making monkey sounds. Put him on the big round table in the Cafe Napoleon, put a reed in his hand, crown on his head, blanket on his shoulders, and made him eat *bananas* in front of all them Frenchies. Oh, how the white boys danced that night... passed out leaflets with that boy's picture on it. Called him Moonshine, King of the Monkeys. And when we slit his throat, you know that fool asked us what he had done wrong?"...

Mitt Romney & Benjamin Netanyahu Are Old Friends - NYTimes.com

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/08/us/politics/mitt-romney-and-benjamin-netanyahu-are-old-friends.html?_r=2&ref=politics&pagewanted=all

RRD:Now this is certainly interesting:Both the relationship between Romney and Netenyahu in and of itself, and the fact that the Times is,in effect, sounding the alarm.
I jokingly told a relative about the fact that there was a story being published "warning",that in effect, our foreign policy would be "outsourced" to Tel Aviv if Romney got in,(oddly the Times does not seem to object to it being effectively "outsourced" to Hamas and Tehran,as it is now.)

The relative said:"In a anti-semitic periodical?"
"In the New York Times",I said."Exactly,in a anti-semitic periodical".

It is also interesting to note that the Times speaks of how the Romney-Netanyahu relationship would affect the views of "neoconsevatives"(fn1),and Evangelicals,as if these were the only two groups in the U.S. who viewed Netanyahu favorably.
They seem to regard the relationship as being immaterial to how the average American Jew regards Romney.
They are forgetting their ”Mearsheimer & Walt”;”American Jews have divided loyalties”,narrative.
Surely American Jews will leap to embrace Romney now!
Of course they won't.
The reality is that the loyalty of most Democratic Jews is not divided;it is steadfast. It is not steadfastly devoted to Israel. It is not steadfastly devoted to the United States.
It is not even steadfastly devoted to beliefs & principles.

It is steadfastly devoted to the Democratic Party,& would be still,if the party's formal plank called for the destruction of Israel & the United States.

In the minds of most Democratic Jews, not only is Obama pro-Israel,but whatever Obama says or does automatically becomes pro-Israel.If Obama says that Israel needs to be ”saved from itself”, then that will now be the new "pro-Israel" position in their ”minds”.
If Obama says, right after Hamas has publicly mourned Bin Laden's death, that Israel must make peace with these barbarians, that will become their new pro-Israel position.
If Obama hires overt anti-semites, like Samantha Power ("So much of it,is,is he good for the Jews”),and Chas Freeman, doing so is further proof of his love for Israel since Obama is willing to hear "contrasting points of view".

Yet at the same time, these Democratic Jews quake in fear of Evangelicals,Republicans, and philo-semites like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, and leap to defend scum like Soros, someone who--as a adult--described his childhood during the Holocaust as being the happiest period of his life, blamed Jews and Israel for anti-semitism,and said that America needed "de-nazification".

But he is,after all,a Holocaust Survivor.

I used to believe,as some of my naive friends still do,that once those American Jews, who proclaim their support for Israel, were shown what Obama was,& who he choose as his advisors, that they would change their view of him.

My error was in assuming that the Democratic Jews who spoke of Israel's importance to them were sincere,& that they were open to being persuaded by facts.
They weren't.
They are members of a cult, the cult is not Judaism,or even Liberalism, the cult is the mindless worship of the Democratic party.

So in that sense, the Times is correct.
Obama has nothing to fear, after all, those who are truly supportive of Israel believe that Obama needs to ”smack Netanyahu around”,just like a older brother smacks around a drunken younger brother.

The term Neo-Conservative has a actual, correct meaning,it refers to a intellectual movement of ex-liberals headed by Irving Kristol, and his son William Kristol of the Weekly Standard,& also to those influenced by them. But it is currently used to mean ”anyone & everyone with whom I disagree with whose foreign policy is more hawkish than mine”,a usage which ignores important distinctions between hawkish Conservatives & Objectivists & libertarians on the one hand & Neo-Conservatives on the other.
The latter for example, tend to emphasize ”spreading Democracy” (almost exclusively through elections),even if the "Democracy" in question results in a Theocratic Dictatorship that is committed to our destruction & the oppression of Gays,Christians,Women & Jews,& ”apostates”.

More disingenuous Iran leaks from the administration concerning Tehran's nuclear ambitions #irannuclear #jcot

RRD:The Supreme Leader refers to Israel as a "cancer",Tehran hides its "peaceful" nuclear program for years, and the wife of a Iranian nuclear scientist is on record as saying that her husband's goal in life
was the destruction of Israel.(fn1)

And yet the Washington Post publishes this adorable nugget:

...."The expanded espionage effort has confirmed the consensus view expressed by the U.S. intelligence community in a controversial estimate released publicly in 2007. That estimate concluded that while Iran remains resolutely committed to assembling key building blocks for a nuclear weapons program, particularly enriched uranium, the nation’s leaders have opted for now against taking the crucial final step: designing a nuclear warhead.

“It isn’t the absence of evidence, it’s the evidence of an absence,” said one former intelligence official briefed on the findings. “Certain things are not being done.”....

U.S. intelligence gains in Iran seen as boost to confidence - The Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/us-sees-intelligence-surge-as-boost-to-confidence/2012/04/07/gIQAlCha2S_story.html?wpisrc=nl_headlines

RRD:Which ”former intelligence official”?Blank out.Which things are not being done?Blank out.How long would it take for these unnamed "things" to be done,if Tehran choose to do them? Are there any countervailing arguments?

Oddly, while The Washington Post has no qualms about disclosing the nature and number of our drone missions, the name of the group studying Iran (and the approximate number of analysts),and a list of countries where our Officers are operating,The Washington Post does not wish to name the "former intelligence official briefed on the findings”,so that we may evaluate his/her's motive, credibility, expertise etc.

But I guess the public doesn't have the "right to know" that.

Nor are we told about those intelligence analysts who disagree with the alleged "consensus".(Either about those analysts who think that Tehran is more dangerous,or about those who think that Tehran is less dangerous.)

But I guess the public doesn't have the ”right to know” that, either.

Aren't you glad that we have ”gatekeepers”,like the Washington Post ,to ensure that we get only the information that we ”need” to come to the ”right” (government approved)conclusion.
