John Boehner: Filibuster Reform 'Designed To Marginalize Senate Republicans'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/29/john-boehner-filibuster_n_2215654.html

....." Speaker John Boehner joined fellow Republicans in the Senate on Thursday in their battle to stop Democrats controlling that chamber from
curbing filibusters, threatening to ignore bills the Senate
sends him if Democrats have abused GOP senators' rights
to slow consideration of legislation.
The threat by Boehner, R-Ohio, represents an unusual
escalation across the Capitol building of a bitter partisan
fight that has been brewing in the Senate for weeks. It
also underscores a Republican effort to retain as much
power as they can next year, when Democrats will control
the White House and Senate and Republicans will lead only
the House.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has said that
on the first day of the new Congress in January, he may
take the unusual step of using a simple majority vote to
limit filibusters.
Usually it takes a two-thirds vote to change Senate rules.
A simple majority would mean Democrats could change
the filibuster rules without GOP support, and the threat
has infuriated Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-
Ky., and other Republicans. Democrats will control the new
Senate 55-45, including one Democratic-leaning
independent.
Boehner said that Reid's threat "is clearly designed to
marginalize Senate Republicans and their constituents
while greasing the skids for controversial, partisan
measures."
He added, "Any bill that reaches a Republican-led House
based on Senate Democrats' heavy-handed power play would be dead on arrival”.....

Apparently All That Stuff About Needing SOPA To Go After Foreign Sites Was Bogus | Techdirt

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20121126/17190821152/apparently-all-that-stuff-about-needing-sopa-to-go-after-foreign-sites-was-bogus.shtml

..... ”First off, if you remember, one of the key reasons why we were told SOPA was needed was that for all of ICE's previous domain takedowns it was "impossible" for it to take down foreign domains. Except... as ICE's own announcement here shows that was completely untrue. It seems to have had no difficulty finding willing law enforcement partners around the globe to seize websites without any due process:

...recognizing the global nature of Internet crime, this year the IPR Center partnered with Europol, who, through its member countries, executed coordinated seizures of foreign -based top -level domains such as .eu, .be, .dk, .fr, .ro and .uk. This effort is titled Project Transatlantic and resulted in 31 domain name seizures.

"This operation is a great example of the tremendous cooperation between ICE and our international partners at the IPR Center," said ICE Director John Morton. "Our partnerships enable us to go after criminals who are duping unsuspecting shoppers all over the world."....

.... ”in Tahrir Square, thousands more people, most of them well -educated and secular, said that they were resolved to press for another revolution, this time against the Islamist leader who won 52 percent of the presidential vote. Many people said Morsi’s actions were verging on dictatorship.

The Obama administration expressed dismay over Morsi’s action. Victoria Nuland, the State Department spokeswoman, noted that a core aim of the upheaval that toppled Mubarak had been to “ensure that power would not be overly concentrated in the hands of any one person or institution.”

Having congratulated Morsi earlier in the week for his statesmanship in fostering a cease -fire in the Gaza Strip, State Department officials said the United States was seeking an explanation for the new move, which removed all judicial checks over Morsi’s actions.”....

The homicide case of Houston Texas-based Iranian dissident Gelareh Bagherzadeh has become even more bizarre with the murder of Coty Beaver, the twin brother of Gelareh's boyfriend #iranelections #womensrights #jcot

RRD: The homicide case of Houston Texas-based Iranian dissident Gelareh Bagherzadeh has become even more bizarre.
Some background for those unfamiliar with the case: Gelareh Bagherzadeh was a Iranian women's rights activist & political dissident studying molecular genetics at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston ,Texas.
She converted to Christianity in 2011. On January 15th in 2012 she was shot & killed as she was driving home from the residence of Cory Beavers, her boyfriend of two months. There was no evidence of robbery. While some suspected that the shooting may have been connected to her activism and/or to her conversion to Christianity the family doubted such claims (why would she be targeted alone out of all the other dissidents, one person said) . Others suspected that it was a random drive-by shooting.
On November 12,2012 Coty Beaver, the twin brother of Cory Beaver was found murdered, riddled with bullets, inside his apartment.
No doubt another random act of violence.
Of course this does not prove that the Islamic Republic Of Iran was behind the killings, but either we have two completely random, completely unconnected crimes here or there is some connection of some kind whether to the IRI or something else.

She had been driving home from Cory Beavers' house that night. The couple had been dating for
about 2½ months, Beavers said.

Officers did not find anything taken from Bagherzadeh's car. ...

...."Coty Beavers, 28, was discovered dead inside his apartment in the 10800 block of Legacy Park Drive around 4:30 p.m. Monday. He was last seen around 5:45 that morning going back to his apartment after walking his wife to her vehicle.
He was described by his brother as having a big heart and the kind of person who thought about things most people never bothered with.Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and charges in

No,not all atheists are up in arms over a Charlie Brown Christmas

RRD: One problem with being a member of a minority is that you are often placed in the position of explaining that group X which takes stance Y does not speak for all the individuals who share some of group X's other beliefs. This is true of Jews,Catholics,Muslims & yes Atheists.
A group of atheists in Arkansas--the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers--apparently having little else to do with themselves (since of course, they could not spend their time more productively criticizing Isalmists) ,have taken a bold & courageous stance, against ..."A Charlie Brown Christmas" .

Atheists cry foul over 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' | The Daily Caller

http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/21/atheists-cry-foul-over-a-charlie-brown-christmas

...."The trouble began when students at Terry Elementary
School brought home letters detailing the trip to see “A
Charlie Brown Christmas” [RRD:a live version of the movie in play form ] at a local church, according to a report from Arkansas’ KARK. A parent who had a problem with the play’s content notified the local atheist group of the field trip.
“We’re not saying anything bad about Charlie Brown,”
Anne Orsi, vice president of the ,told KARK. “The problem is that it’s got religious content and it’s being performed in a religious venue and that doesn’t just blur the line between church and state, it oversteps it entirely.”
....."While students can opt out, the parent whistle blower who
preferred to remain unnamed told KARK that she is letting
her child go because she does not want her child to be
bullied. "...

RRD: State sponsored prayer "oversteps the line between Church & State". (fn1) Taking a Jewish child to a church to have him baptized without his parent's consent "oversteps the line between Church & State" (& actually happened once,I believe) . A Public School teacher screaming at a Jewish child that he will "burn in hell" unless he converts to Christianity "oversteps the line between Church & State" (and also happened once)
Requiring non-believers to swear oaths that they do not believe in "oversteps the line between Church & State".
A Public School teacher criticizing a parent in front of their child for not letting them see "A Charlie Brown Christmas" "oversteps the line between Church & State". I would even go so far as to say that letting some students harass another student (for whatever motive) violates the rights of both the child & the parent ,(but that applies irrespective of whether religion is involved). Taking a child to a church--so long as there is no effort to indoctrinate the child--does not. I myself went on such field trips as a child & I while I was briefly concerned that they might try to proselytize to me, they didn't. Contrary to the beliefs of this Freethinker group there are perfectly valid logistical reasons for taking a child to a church, exactly as the church members have explained.
That is the churches lone the schools the use of their facilities.
When you are dealing with a private school these matters do not come up. It is only when dealing with public schools, which are owned in common by everyone in general & by no one in particular, that these bizarre clashes arise.
I wish to be clear, state run schools are potentially very dangerous because they can be easily turned into government indoctrination centers. We see this with efforts to promote or condemn certain beliefs or ideas;in sex education schools alternate between "tolerance" of homosexuality & condom promotion on the one hand & abstinence only education on the other,in science we see it in the battles over Evolution & Global Warming,& in social studies we see it both with Pro-Obama & Pro-Romney teachers.

All this,in my mind,is as good a reason as any to get the government out of the school business altogether. Tax credits, controlled by the parents, would be a good first step.
But in this particular case I must ask:what is the end game here? There are countless works of literature from a Christmas Carol to Dante's Inferno to The Brothers Karamazov to Camille which could be said to "promote religion" add to that those books which could be said to "attack religion" such as Moby Dick,& Candide,& Inherit the Wind & Huckleberry Finn & the child would emerge from school as a cultural illiterate!
Yes,we must guard against efforts to indoctrinate children(whether in religion or secularism) ,but we cannot expect to cleanse the curriculum of anything anyone finds offensive,(particularly if people have the opportunity to opt out). The behavior of this group is even more irksome to me since there are real & legitimate concerns about public schools becoming tools for indoctrination by one group or another,& these silly cases only serve to "cry wolf" & distract us from more serious cases.

Footnotes:

fn1

Voluntary personal prayer by students, does not in my view violate religious liberty,so long as it is not used as some indirect method of indoctrination by the school,& so long as the dissenting students are protected against harassment by the religious students. I recall hearing of one case where the students openly insulted & tormented a Jewish student for being Jewish. Such behavior should not be tolerated irrespective of who does it or why. The school is a place where students are supposed to learn, not a place to be bullied.
But it is hardly "bullying" for a one student,(or more),to say a private prayer to himself (or themselves )before eating. Indeed, some Jewish students do so.

Is our situation worse than that faced during the American Civil War?

RRD: It is odd to find myself in the role of "optimist" in this case, but I believe that Dr.Peikoff is overly pessimistic; and--in any case--wrong about his view that our current situation is worse than that which our country faced during the American Civil War.

What do you think of the 2012 presidential election results? « Podcast « Peikoff

http://www.peikoff.com/2012/11/19/what-do-you-think-of-the-2012-presidential-election-results/

In the podcast Dr. Peikoff said that at the end of the Civil War "everyone knew that at the end,Freedom & normalcy would return". (quoting from memory).

No not based on what I know about the Civil War they didn't.

Lincoln certainly did not. When he spoke of the danger of America perishing from the earth he was quite serious. He regarded the war as essentially being divine retribution for the sin of slavery. He predicted that if the South were not defeated, the result would be a further progressive disintegration of the United States until there was nothing left of the country. Nor was Lincoln alone,to many in the North it seemed that victory was impossible until the tide was turned with the ascension of new generals such as Grant & Sherman. The fact that we now know the outcome, just as we now know the outcome of FDR's presidency ,does not alter the fact that what people FELT at the time was anything but the comforting belief that freedom would be restored at the end.
At this point the argument may be made that the Civil War Era was different philosophically than our own.
This is certainly true, though "different" does not mean better or worse. One could argue that there was greater respect for Individual Rights in those days; ( Dr.Peikoff has not made this argument but some might.)
But to do so one would need to set aside the minor problem that close to half the country seceded from the Union essentially to preserve the right of slave owners to buy ,sell, trade,& rape human beings.
But as slavery was never truly in danger from Lincoln's presidency, even that is being too generous .The South seceded because they thought that Lincoln would put slavery on the path to eventual extinction. (fn1)
Given that a significant portion of the populace refused to acknowledge that Blacks were even human & given that many who did oppose slavery did so for religious reasons ,I am not convinced that those days were--overall--more rational then today & I am not convinced that our current situation is as bad as,or worse than, that faced during the Civil War,whether philosophically, politically,or practically. That said, I grant that there may be other reasons than those that I have listed here for believing that our situation is worse than that faced during the Civil War,(perhaps in connection to Dr.Peikoff's view that we are the first "Disintegrationist" society in history,Disintegration being the "D" in DIM see below) ,but I am not yet convinced of that based on Dr.Peikoff's podcast . ( Note: I have not yet had the opportunity to read his book The DIM Hypothesis which lays out his views of the state of the world in more detail) .

In any case the election is,however,a disaster.

A Link to Dr. Peikoff's book The DIM Hypothesis:

The DIM Hypothesis: Why the Lights of the West Are Going Out « Peikoff

http://www.peikoff.com/books/the-dim-hypothesis/

Footnotes:

Certainly not all Confederates supported slavery, some hated the institution but sincerely believed that Lincoln would exceed the powers invested in him by the Constitution, but many did support succession for the express purpose of preserving slavery.

Now, the repeated failure of moderates in presidential elections hasn't prevented some Republicans, in the wake of Romney's loss, from calling on the GOP to abandon conservative positions.

Articles: A Winning Formula?

http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/11/m-a_winning_formula.html

...."For example, Republicans have won five of ten
presidential elections in the post-Watergate era. Every
Republican loss was by a moderate. And every Republican
win, except one, was by a conservative. The exception, in
1988, occurred when the elder George Bush, a moderate,
rode to victory on the coattails of Ronald Reagan.
However, in 1992, when Bush had to run on his own
record, he lost; just like the other moderate Republicans.
Now, the repeated failure of moderates in presidential
elections hasn't prevented some Republicans, in the wake
of Romney's loss, from calling on the GOP to abandon
conservative positions. In other words, some Republicans
are calling on the GOP to abandon the very thing that has
delivered victories for the very thing that has delivered
losses.
Of course, the conflict between moderate and
conservative Republicans is hardly new. In the aftermath
of Watergate, moderates argued that the GOP should start
reaching out to voters by dropping conservative positions.
However, early in 1975, following a disastrous midterm
election for Republicans, Reagan responded by saying, "I

... "Iran has reached another milestone in its nuclear program,
U.N. inspectors reported Friday, saying the country has
completed work on an underground factory for making
enriched uranium. Western officials fear that the heavily

The report by the International Atomic Energy Agency
also documented a sharp rise in Iran’s stockpile of a more
purified form of enriched uranium that experts say can be
converted relatively easily into fissile material for nuclear
weapons. "....

Iran ready to double nuclear work in bunker: IAEA - Yahoo! News

http://news.yahoo.com/iran-ready-sharply-increase-nuclear-bunker-iaea-163733424.html

" VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran is set to sharply expand its uranium enrichment in an underground site after installing all the centrifuges it was built for, a U.N. nuclear report showed on Friday, a move that could increase Western alarm about Tehran's nuclear course.

The latest quarterly International Atomic Energy Agency report on Iran came 10 days after the re -election of U.S. President Barack Obama , which raised hopes for a revival of nuclear diplomacy with Iran following speculation that Israel might bomb the nuclear facilities of its arch-enemy soon.

The Islamic state has put in place the nearly 2,800 centrifuges that the Fordow enrichment site, buried deep inside a mountain, was designed for, and is poised to double the number of them operating to almost 1,400, according to the confidential IAEA report obtained by Reuters.

"They can be started any day. They are ready," a senior diplomat familiar with the IAEA's investigation said.

If Iran chose to dedicate the new machines to produce higher -grade uranium, it could significantly shorten the time it would require for any bid to build an atomic bomb. Iran says it needs to refine uranium to make reactor fuel.

Tehran has produced about 233 kg (512 pounds) of higher -grade enriched uranium since 2010, an increase of 43 kg since August this year, according to the report issued in Vienna.

That could be sufficient for one bomb, security experts say. But the Iranians have fed about 96 kg of the uranium refined to 20 percent of fissile concentration for conversion into fuel for a medical research reactor in Tehran, the report said.

Such conversions make it harder for the material to be processed into 90 percent, or bomb-grade, enriched uranium and could be a step by Tehran meant in part to counter Western suspicions of a covert atomic bomb program.

But the stockpile of 20 percent uranium gas has still grown by nearly 50 percent to 145 kg in the last three months, approaching the amount required for a nuclear weapon.”

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran unloaded nuclear fuel from its first atomic power plant last month, a United Nations report said on Friday, a few months after the Russian builder said the long-postponed reactor was operating at full capacity.

The Bushehr plant is a symbol of what the Islamic Republic says is its peaceful nuclear ambitions, disputed by the West, and any new hitch would probably be seen as an embarrassment both for Tehran and Moscow, whose experts help run it.

The transfer of fuel assemblies from the reactor core to a spent fuel pond meant the plant was shut down, a diplomat familiar with the issue said. "It was certainly not foreseen, that's for sure," he said.

The reason for the unexpected move was unclear but it could be a sign of a new problem in running the Russian-built, 1,000-megawatt reactor near the Gulf city of Bushehr.”....

A hypothesis seeking to explain the hostility of many in the intelligensia towards Israel.

I believe that a rarely mentioned reason for the academic & leftist hostility towards Israel, is that Israel is regarded as being a "colonialist project" & as being a "white racist oppressor state ”, by many of the intelligentsia.
I attribute this belief to a combination of Multi-Culturalist theory & the writings of Edward Said.
The term "white racist oppressor" here may sound odd, since many Israelis are not light skinned, but Multi-culturalist theory does not define "white" or "black" in terms of skin color,(or at least the part of multi-culturalist theory that I am familiar with does not) nor does it even define it in terms of objective persecution, but instead defines it in terms of ”privilege” & "perceptions" . I believe that this is what permits many multi-culturalists to treat Muslims as being oppressed ,while at the same time regarding Jews as being "white" ,even though Jews are far more likely to be the targets of hate crimes than Muslims are in the United States. It is also,in my view,a major factor in the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" attitude of the intelligensia towards Islam.

This is a topic that I will have to research in detail so as to gather evidence to either confirm or debunk my theory, but I thought I would present the theory in brief here now, simply as a hypothesis.

The Ending Spending Model of activism RedState #tcot #teaparty

http://www.redstate.com/2012/11/14/the-ending-spending-model/

....[One] model moving forward that these people should
consider is Joe Ricketts’ Ending Spending. I’m very familiar
with Ending Spending and the good work it has done.
Instead of just going out to find Republicans to support,
Ending Spending focused on an issue — ending spending
in Washington. When many conservatives threw in with
Don Stenberg in Nebraska, Ending Spending was one of
the lone voices for Deb Fischer. In Arizona, Ending
Spending played below the radar helping Jeff Flake.
A key to it’s success was that it stayed nimbler, focused on
the issue not the party, and instead of building up
elaborate infrastructure on its own, it worked with other
small groups already doing good work. Instead of
competition, which so many groups on the right do,
Ending Spending collaborated. It avoided turf wars. It
worked." ....

God save us from our allies Romney adviser urges carbon tax ,and the AEI is also considering it #tcot #teaparty #revolution2013 #war

Carbon Tax Idea Gains Wonkish Energy - Washington Wire - WSJ

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/11/13/carbon-tax-idea-gains-wonkish-energy/tab/print/

"Today the conservative American Enterprise Institute is holding an all-day, on -the-record discussion of the idea. And the Brookings Institution is unveiling a slate of new measures meant to make the government more effective, including a carbon tax that could raise $1.5 trillion over ten years. All that follows a cascade of carbon -tax advocacy in recent days from the chattering classes and a slate of academic work over the summer (not to mention our own two cents ).

The idea of a carbon tax is simple: Put a price tag on the harmful emissions from fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and use the revenues to fund clean -energy development, pay down the deficit or slash taxes. Proponents often describe it as a win-win-win policy, because carbon taxes would penalize things that are bad (pollution) and lower taxes on things that are good (labor and capital).

....“The time seems ripe for this discussion. The president is committed both to raising tax revenue and to dealing with climate change. A carbon tax kills two birds with one stone,” said Gregory Mankiw, a Harvard economist who advised the Romney campaign and has long pushed for more efficient taxation, including a carbon tax.

The Brookings proposal would impose a $20 fee on each ton of carbon, raising an average of $150 billion per year over a decade. Congress and the president would have to decide exactly how to use the money. Research by MIT and Brookings suggests that business -related tax breaks, whether corporate taxes or taxes on investment, would provide the biggest boost to economic growth and job creation"....

RRD: First the "Conservative" Heritage foundation essentially proposes Romneycare ,then Bill Kristol urges tax increases, now a Romney adviser wants to do Obama's work for him in finishing off what is left of our freedom & our economy.

Oh,& the AEI may wish to pitch in.

I voted for Romney but if you wish to see WHY many did not, it was not out of indifference to our country but fear that the Republican,Romney, would essentially do the same thing to our country.

...." House Republicans chose Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers as House committee chairman Wednesday, settling a contest for the GOP’s fourth-ranking leader that had taken on outsized importance as a test for conservatives pushing for greater roles in House leadership.

Though Boehner was publicly neutral in the race, the GOP establishment was known to favor McMorris Rodgers, who enjoyed the support of seven committee chairman and has been a loyal lieutenant to House leaders. She had faced Georgia Rep. Tom Price for the job.

She served as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s liaison to the House Republicans. Had she lost, the House GOP’s top leadership positions would all have been held by men, at a time when the party’s lack of diversity has become electorally problematic.

But many conservatives, who have at times been skeptical of Boehner’s leadership, preferred Price, whose bid received a push this week after vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan endorsed him for the job, despite McMorris -Rodgers’s assistance during the campaign.

McMorris Rodgers will replace Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R -Tex.), current GOP conference chairman, who is expected to step down from the job to become chairman of the Financial Services Committee."....

....."On Friday, the Obama administration’s Bureau of Land
Management announced it was opening up 677,000 acres
for oil shale drilling in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, and
also 130,000 for tar sands activities in Utah.
However, in doing so, the administration has closed off 1.6

President Barack Obama said during the second

“Once again, the president’s rhetoric on domestic energy

senior vice president for the Institute for Energy Research

School teachers face scrutiny for Facebook Obama criticism | The Daily Caller

http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/13/obamas-harshest-critics-angry-schoolteachers-posting-on-facebook-video/

...." Two public school teachers have found themselves in hot
water at work after posting messages critical of President
Barack Obama on their personal Facebook pages.
After last Tuesday’s election, according to ABC affiliate
WSOC-TV, South Carolina-based eighth-grade math
teacher Sharon Aceta updated her status on Facebook
with this sarcastic message: “Congrats Obama. As one of
my students sang down the hallway, ‘We get to keep our
food stamps’ …which I pay for because they can’t budget
their money… and really, neither can you.”
A spokesperson for Rawlinson Road Middle School, Aceta’s
employer, said that multiple people had contacted the
school with complaints.
“The teacher has admitted that poor judgment was used
in this case, and she is very apologetic,” said the
spokesperson, Elaine Baker, according to WSOC.
The school suspended Aceta for one day, on Friday. She
reportedly spent that day apologizing for her actions. She
also swiftly deleted the post from Facebook.
Aceta probably won’t face any additional disciplinary
action, according to officials.
Meanwhile, in Ohio, a teacher at Linden McKinley High
School posted an even more caustic message on her
Facebook page, according to CBS affiliate WBNS-TV.
“Congrats to those dependent on government,
homosexuals, potheads, JAY-Z fans, non Christians, non
taxpayers, illegals, communists, Muslims, planned murder
clinics, enemies of America, Satan You WON!”
The school, which received complaints about the post, has
not yet issued an official reprimand of the teacher "...

RRD: What concievable justification is there for PUBLIC schools policing what political views are expressed by teachers or students on Facebook???! And yes ,that applies equally to Obama supporters. In the past I & others have denounced Obama supporters who have brought their political views into the classroom (and it is not just Obama supporters ,see below) but I have never called for Schools to discipline teachers for what opinions they express away from school.

Sweden to Deport Iranian Christian?

http://blogs.cbn.com/globallane/archive/2012/11/12/sweden-to-deport-iranian-chirstian.aspx

" Iranian Christian Reza Jebbari faces imminent deportation
from Sweden, despite the possibility that his return to Iran
could lead to his imprisonment or death.
Jebbari is a former Muslim who converted to Christianity
during a visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2010. He applied for assylum [sic] when he arrived in Sweden two years ago, but the Swedish Immigration Service and the Migration Court rejected the request.
The assylum denial came despite evidence that Jebbari actively participates in church activities, including street evangelism on a regular basis. He's appeared in church plays and sings in the choir at Tensta Church.
Apparently the court questioned the sincerity of Jebbari's conversion and said he failed to convince them that his life would be in danger if he were sent back to Iran. This,
despite assurances from Jebbari's pastor that, "He has a deep Christian identity, as much as I have."

RRD: We have just had a very public, high profile case of a Christian--Pastor Nadarkhani--who narrowly avoided death & now we are told that this man would not be in danger if returned??!

Some questions about the 2012 election #tcot #teaparty #aynrand #twisters

In putting these questions I am not interested in hearing about your moods or feelings, however earnest & heartfelt.

I am interested in facts. Facts as in a careful, methodical study of polling data, not "facts" as in assertions.

1. What were the motives of Obama's voters? (And no they likely did not all share the same motives). What did they think they were voting for? What was their level of knowledge? Did they have access to all the facts? Were they duped by the media? To what extent, has Obama succeeded because he is a socialist, and to what extent because the media has been covering for him?

2. Why did those who sat out the election do so? Who would they have voted for? Did they sit out the election because they thought Romney was not conservative enough? Or did they sit out the election because Obama was not liberal enough?

3. In a country that has given landslide victories to: FDR (twice) ,LBJ,Nixon,Reagan,Bush 2004,& Obama in 2008 is it wise to make sweeping proclamations in response to a narrow loss by a candidate who is far,far too close to Obama in his views & who spent much of his time declaring--not that Obama was a enemy of the United States--but that he was just "a nice guy,who was out of his depth".( Particularly given that Objectivists & Conservatives could not persuade all of their own to vote for Romney.)

4. What role did the GOP's position on abortion,& particularly that of Akin & Mourdock ,play in the election? Forget whether it SHOULD have played a role, what role did it play?
( I can personally attest to the loss of four anti-Obama women who simply did not vote & of one who voted for Gary Johnson)

" Instead, Obama won. Before 2012, this would not have been possible in America. At the end of the day, a majority would never have voted back into office a President presiding over such a lousy economy. Obama himself, back in 2009, predicted he would not be a two -term President if the economy didn’t appreciably improve. The economy did not appreciably approve. Yet Obama won anyway. "

"Pessimism is not a survival trait” :

Captain Dylan Hunt from the TV series Andromeda.

Our situation is grave & I do not intend to offer some giddily pollyannish post about "silver linings" in the re-election of a man whose re-election both you & I regard as being disastrous, both for our loved ones & for our nation.

I have repeatedly described our situation as being "nightmarish" .

Lest there be any doubt about what I mean when I say that our situation is ”nightmarish" & about whether I see the same threats that you do, I urge you follow my links to my two previous posts in which I explained why I chose to support Romney after railing against him for months.

Why I will support Romney in the #2012 election (after opposing him) - fightingstatism

Obama is not Mcgovern,he is more dangerous

http://fightingstatism.posterous.com/obama-is-not-mcgovernhe-is-more-dangerous-ayn

To sum up:

I think that the re-election of Obama greatly diminishes the odds of repealing Obamacare.

And I think that repealing Obamacare is a matter of life & death.

I also believe that Obama,(unlike Romney),will actively try to sabotage Israel's efforts to stop Tehran from acquiring a atomic bomb, with results that are potentially catastrophic for the U.S.,Israel, & for those in Iran who oppose the regime there.

In short our situation is dire.

However it is precisely because of the fact that our situation is dire that I have a limited amount of patience for those who ,on the one hand regard themselves as being the spiritual descendents of the Founders, & who on the other have responded to our defeat in 2012 by practically weeping "what can I do,what can I do" ,like The Godfather character whom Vito Corleone must shake out of his hysteria.

Over the past several hours I have read that America is "dead",& "finished" that America is "over",& that we are entering "the twilight of America" & that we are "doomed".
These statements are not being spoken by gloating enemies seeking to demoralize us,they are being spoken by the very people who are the only thing that may stop us from being "dead" &,"finished" etc.

With all due respect: Get A Hold of Yourselves People.

The country which you are busy writing off has survived among other things, a war of Independence against the British Empire,a Civil War that many ( including Lincoln ) feared would destroy it;it has prevailed against the "Master Race" & against the terrifying Japanese suicide squads, and in spite of all the predictions of almost all of the "experts" it has outlived the Soviet Union,& yet, now, now we are "doomed".

And no, do not tell me that "that was different, since we were united then".

I'm sorry,we were united during the Civil War?

We were united in opposing Communism?

And no do not tell me that "the American Spirit is gone..."

Really?

Where has it gone?

Is it like a bird that flies around descending on this person or that person?

Or is it like some
mythical muse that we must lie around, waiting for it to "inspire us"?

The "American Spirit" is a set of beliefs ,& attitudes derived from those beliefs. My ancestors had it ,& they endured far more than you or I have ever endured to ensure that their children & their children's children could live in a free society.

They lived in a dictatorship, they fled to a free country;risking death in the process. They did not say "we're doomed" ,they said "how can we escape?" & "what method can we use" & "what can go wrong" & "what are our problems & how can we fix them".

Had they adopted the passivity & despair that I have read on Twitter & elsewhere they would not have escaped,& in all probability I would never have been born (since their descendents would have died in the Holocaust)

For that matter ,without that spirit, our country would never have gained independence, would never have defeated the Nazis & the Communists (abroad) & would never have become a superpower.

The American Spirit means:

Facing the world & asking "how can I fix this", "how can I achieve this" ,& if the answer is not apparent ,or if it seems "impossible" then they redouble their efforts.

This,& neither despair, nor Obama's collectivism is what made America great,& this is the only thing that can save it.

I will not surrender this country to the likes of Obama & Pelosi & Reid.
