Flashback in 2005 Obama voted for defacto ban on all Deer hunting ammunition #tcot #tlot #2ndamendment ((delay : in 24 hours))

RRD: The site I quote dismisses the claim made in the title by the NRA,which merely demonstrates their utter ignorance of firearms.

”To support its claims, the NRA ad prints three references at the bottom of the screen — a 2005
Senate vote, a 2004 Senate debate with Republican opponent Alan Keyes and a 1999 article in the Chicago Defender. The vote, which the ad calls an effort “to ban virtually all deer-hunting ammunition,”was an unsuccessful effort to expand the legal definition of armor-piercing ammunition to include pistol and rifle rounds that the U.S. attorney general deemed more likely to penetrate body armor than a normal round. In a Senate speech, the amendment’s sponsor, Sen. Edward Kennedy, said it was not aimed at ammunition used for hunting. In addition, the vote itself wouldn’t have singled out any ammunition — instead leaving the decision on what, if anything, to
ban up to the attorney general.”...

RRD: Contra the article any round that is powerful enough to kill a deer--by definition--will punch through a bullet-proof vest, though that is not their intended purpose. This includes rounds that date from the old west such as the 30-30 & rounds from the early 20th century such as the 30-06. Nor is it reassuring to me that the decision as to what is or is not to be banned would be left to the discretion of a Attorney General like Eric Holder who helped cause the death of Brian Terry & Maria Gamez --in my view-- in his quest for gun control.

Analysis: Fact-Checkers Fall Short in Criticizing NRA's Anti-Obama Ads | Fox News

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,427347,00.html

"Ban Rifle Ammunition Commonly Used for Hunting and Sport Shooting"-- FactCheck.org acknowledges that Obama voted for a bill that would “expand the definition of armor piercing ammunition,” but labels this statement as “false.” Their evidence is a statement by the bill’s sponsor,Sen. Ted Kennedy, that the bill “is not about hunting.”
But here is the problem with Kennedy’s claim. The bill banned ammunition that “may be used in a handgun” and can penetrate the “minimum,” type 1, level of body armor, which only protects against the lowest-powered handgun
cartridges. Any center-fire rifle, including those used for hunting or target practice, can penetrate this “minimum” armor. There are handguns that can fire these rifle rounds, so the bill’s language of banning ammunition that
“may be used in a handgun” would be met. In addition, FactCheck.org ignores other information. Obama said in a 2003 questionnaire that he “support[ed] banning the sale of ammunition for assault weapons.” The rifles banned under the so-called assault weapons ban used such standard ammunition as .223 and .308 caliber bullets, the same ammunition used commonly in hunting rifles. ”....

RRD: If it is true that Obama supported banning the sale of ammunition for ”assault weapons” then he does in fact intend to target hunting ammunition because the 308 round which is used in Assault Rifles such as the H&K G3 & the FN-Fal & the M14 is also one of the most popular hunting rounds of all . Indeed is widely regarded as being the ”swiss army knife” of rifle rounds because of its flexibility.
So even the ”I am not coming after hunters” claim is a lie.
