Note to Coulter making it easier to commit ”mentally ill” makes it easier to commit innocent gun owners #2ndamendment

RRD: My patience with this stupidity is at a end.

...” After Loughner got a tattoo, the artist, Carl Grace, remarked: “That’s a weird dude. That’s a Columbine candidate.”....

....”One of Loughner’s teachers, Ben McGahee, filed numerous complaints against him, hoping to have him removed from class. “When I turned my back to write on the board,” McGahee said, “I would always turn back quickly — to see if he had a gun.”On her first day at school, student Lynda Sorensen emailed her friends about Loughner: “We do have one student in the class who was disruptive today, I’m not certain yet if he was on drugs (as one person surmised) or disturbed. He scares me a bit. The teacher tried to throw him out and he refused to go, so I talked to the teacher afterward. Hopefully he will be out of class very soon, and not come back with an automatic weapon.”
The last of several emails Sorensen sent about Loughner said: “We have a mentally unstable person in the class that scares the living cr** out of me. He is one of those whose picture you see on the news, after he has come into class with an automatic weapon. Everyone interviewed would say, Yeah, he was in my math class and he was really weird.”....

......”But committing Loughner to a
mental institution in Arizona would have required a court order stating that he was a danger to
himself and others.”.....

RRD: Under current law committing someone to a mental institution ( as opposed to Baker Acting them ,see below) prohibits them for owning a gun for the rest of their life unless their rights are restored by a judge (something that rarely happens).
Committing someone to a insane, asylum is indeed very difficult,IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE, BECAUSE IN A FREE SOCIETY THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON THE STATE TO SHOW THAT YOU SHOULD BE DEPRIVED OF YOUR LIBERTY,NOT ON YOU TO DISPROVE SOMEONE'S ”FEELING” THAT YOU ARE DANGEROUS. WE CALL IT ”DUE PROCESS” Coulter.
How easy would it be for a anti-gun fanatic to ”protect” one of those dangerous ”nuts” like Coulter ”from herself” by trumping up some libel against them.

....”Innumerable studies have found a correlation between severe mental illness and violent behavior. Thirty-one to 61 percent of all homicides committed by disturbed individuals occur during their first psychotic episode — which is why mass murderers often have no criminal record.”

RRD: False (see below) the mentally ill are only slightly more likely to commit crimes than the ”sane”. Guess how many murders rapists & killers are sane? Oh! but she said ”severe” ,again that is why we have Judges & this thing that we call DUE PROCESS.

Mental Illness And Gun Ownership | Second Amendment | Guns & Ammo

What's more the term ”mentally ill”
has been used to refer to everyone from boisterous young men who (allegedly) have ADHD,to a suicidal battered wife,as well as to the accused batterer. Guess which of those two would be in greater danger from being barred from legal gun ownership?
On the other hand none of the 9/11 terrorists would likely be regarded as being insane ,anymore than the SS guards at Auschwitz were.

....”There’s no time to wait with the mentally ill.”....

Has this fool heard of Baker Acting? A person who (allegedly) poses a imminent threat to themselves or others can be hospitalized for up to 72 hours without a court order based on the word of a psychiatrist & a police officer. After that period (Horrors!) they must actually show in a court that you are a threat, not that someone ”feels” in their widdle heart that you are a threat, but
must actually present REASONS & Facts to back up their claims. It is called ”Due Process” we have it to protect the innocent from the ”feelings” of people, who feel that that wacko Ayn Rand ( ”did you hear that she eats babies!”) should be locked up.

....”James Holmes, the accused Aurora, Colo., shooter, was under psychiatric care at the University of
Colorado long before he shot up a movie theater. According to news reports and court filings,
Holmes told his psychiatrist, Dr. Lynne Fenton, that he fantasized about killing “a lot of people,”
but she refused law enforcement’s offer to place Holmes under confinement for 72 hours.”....

RRD: And this would have been fixed by Coulter's ”proof by feeling” how?
Coulter just established that the problem wasn't the law but this idiot psychiatrist.

”However, Fenton did drop Holmes as a patient after he made threats against another school psychiatrist. And after Holmes made threats against a professor, he was asked to leave campus. But he wasn’t committed. ”....

RRD: He not only could be committed for making threats he could be arrested, what Coulter is doing here with mental illness is exactly what gun control advocates do with gun control. Calling for more laws when the problem was that the existing laws were not being enforced.

.....”It has been reported that Lanza’s mother, his first victim, was trying to have him involuntarily committed to a mental institution, triggering his rage. ”.....

RRD: ”My son is threatening to harm me/ himself”, five second phone call & he is Baker Acted but does not lose his rights until or unless he is given due process. Again Coulter wants to have it both ways she wants to protect the innocent from unjust gun laws but wants to make it easier to deprive the innocent of their right to due process under the, mental health laws(ironically putting their Second Amendment rights at risk). But given that she wrote the brazenly dishonest ”three cheers for Romneycare” it should hardly be surprising that she would embrace the pragmatist solution of throwing away rights to protect them ,with the result being that she will protect neither.
